U.S. Lauds Saint Kitts And Nevis On Independence Day

CaribWorldNews, WASHINGTON, D.C., Sat. Sept. 19, 2009: U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, yesterday paid tribute to the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis as the islands get ready to celebrate its independence today.

`On behalf of the people of the United States, I extend my congratulations to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis as they celebrate 26 years as an independent nation on September 19,` Clinton said in a statement last night. `Our two nations are united by our shared commitment to advance democracy and human rights and build a brighter future for all our people.`

She also revealed that the two nations are working `as partners to enhance the security and prosperity of the entire Caribbean region.`

And she praised St. Kitts and Nevis as `a leader in our common efforts to combat crime and reach out to at-risk youth through the new security initiative announced by President Obama at the 2009 Summit of the Americas.`

`We look forward to deepening that partnership and expanding our cooperation to promote better health, improve education, expand trade, and protect the environment,` added the U.S. Secretary of State while reaffirming the enduring friendship of the United States.
