CaribPR Wire, WASHINGTON, D.C., Weds. July 21, 2010: A New York radio station that has taken a leap into the future by transmitting on high definition frequency was this week the lone Caribbean media sponsor at the prestigious annual Minority Media & Telecom Council Conference.
One Caribbean Radio, founded by Guyanese-national Edmon Braithwaite two years ago in Brooklyn, NY, was among the top sponsors of the conference in Washington, D.C., but the only Caribbean owned outfit at the event.
One Caribbean Radio joined Radio One, Inc., Arbitron, Inc., The RLJ Companies, InterMedia Partners, LP CTIA-The Wireless Association and Council Tree Communications, Inc., in sponsoring the Tuesday’ July 20th Entrepreneurship Breakfast at the Renaissance Dupont Hotel, in D.C.
‘I have recognized over the past two years the work that President David Honig and MMTC is doing. He is a tireless advocate and we at One Caribbean Radio have personally benefited so giving back in this small way was the least we could do,’ commented OCR chairman, Braithwaite.
‘David’s connection to media and political executives across this country is unsurpassed and he continues to pull off one of the better events in the country for minority media and entrepreneurs. I wish more Caribbean entities can participate given the state of the Caribbean American media,’ Braithwaite added.
The two-day conference included an address from Federal Communications Commission chairman, Julius Genachowski and gave minority small business media owners to top entrepreneurs who focused on topics like accessing capital and procurement opportunities in media, telecom and broadband.
Meanwhile, several media giant Clear Channel donated two radio stations to the non-profit MMTC while Trinity Broadcasting Network donated several low frequency TV stations. Both companies were honored by MMTC with Extraordinary Service awards on Tuesday.
