Dane Dawkins on Tuesday all but put the jockeys’ championship out of title-holder Anthony Thomas’ reach by moving four winners clear in their title-race with a smooth victory aboard Richard Azan’s MOJITO in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes.
MOJITO attacked stablemate BURLAP and the filly MAMMA MIA a half-mile out to score a three-length win, clocking 1:41.1 at a mile.
MOJITO’s half-mile kick in splits of 46.4, quickening into 1:11.2 off the home turn proved too strong for LEGIT BOSS and MAMMA MIA, who dead-heated for second.
Azan closed the late double with PERFECT BREW, who secured a runaway victory at six and a half furlongs among non-restricted overnight allowance company to bring the curtains down on the nine-race card.
The 2022 racing season closes on Saturday.
