Venezuelan assembly orders elections by end of April

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuela’s constitutional assembly has ordered presidential elections by the end of April as the ruling socialist party seeks to consolidate its grip on power amid a rapidly-worsening economic crisis. The proposal made by Diosdado Cabello, the No. 2 leader of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, was approved unanimously by delegates during a raucous session Tuesday by the pro-government assembly.
