US Supreme Court Rejects Houston Appeal Over Benefits For Gay Spouses

The United States Supreme Court refused to hear Houston’s appeal of a lower court decision questioning spousal benefits to gay married municipal workers — indicating the historical 2015 decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide may have restrictions, according to Reuters. The justices refused to step in on a June ruling by the Republican-dominated Texas Supreme Court which restored a lawsuit supported by a conservative group promoting “biblical, Judeo-Christian values” aimed at preventing Houston from providing such benefits, the report said.
