UN Pushing For Increase In Migrant Returns From Libya

The United Nations migration agency is bolstering efforts to return migrants home from Libya and is aiming to evacuate up to 15,000 by the end of this year, according to Reuters. The acceleration of returns is an attempt to curb overcrowding in detentions centers, where numbers increased after boats trying to travel to Italy from the smuggling hub of Sabratha were mostly blocked this year, the report said. It also comes after CNN reported migrants being sold in slave auctions in Libya — prompting an international outcry and requests for migrants to be given safe passage from the country, the report said.
