Look out for Hurricane Danny!

News Americas, MIAMI, FL, Fri. Aug. 21, 2015: The northern Caribbean islands are being warned to watch out for Danny which on Thursday became the first hurricane of the 2015 Atlantic season.

Danny follows Ana, Bill and Claudette from earlier this season but none of the first three storms reached hurricane status, unlike Danny.

The storm according to the National Hurricane Center this morning is on track to bring drenching rain to part of the northern Caribbean islands next week.

Danny became a tropical depression on Tuesday morning, a tropical storm on Tuesday afternoon then a tiny hurricane Thursday morning.

At 5 AM this morning, August 21st, the eye of Hurricane Danny had winds extending outward up to 10 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extending outward up to 60 miles.

This general motion is expected to continue during the next day or so before it turns toward the west by Saturday night.

The storm could reach the Leeward Islands as well as Puerto Rico and Hispaniola  as a Category 1 hurricane by Monday, CNN meteorologist Dave Hennen said.

Danny will bring the potential for flash flooding, rough seas and surf as well as travel disruptions to the northeastern part of the Caribbean.
