Hawaii Will Be First State To Go Cashless For Marijuana Sales

Hawaii announced on Tuesday that they are creating a new plan to avoid potential robberies from dispensaries that are cash-only businesses by requiring all marijuana sales to be handled without cash, according to The Associated Press. All of Hawaii’s eight licensed dispensaries agreed to the idea of going cashless by Oct. 1, the governor’s office said. The dispensaries will request that patients use a debit payment app, that’s already in use for marijuana transactions in six states including California and Colorado, to buy their marijuana in lieu of cash.
