Hammond Downplays Brexit Rift Reports Among Cabinet Members

UK Chancellor Philip Hammond Tuesday played down a report he and Home Secretary Amber Rudd were “isolated” and at odds with colleagues over Brexit as the cabinet discussed the UKs final relationship with the EU, BBC News reported. The Prime Minister’s office labeled the talks involving 25 ministers a “good, clear discussion,” the report said. Hammond and Rudd are believed to favor remaining closely aligned to the EU to ensure access to the single market in years to come, the report said, while other ministers want greater divergence to ensure freedom to strike international trade deals.
