Entire Linares Police Force In Mexico Being Investigated

News Americas, MONTERREY, Mexico, Mon. Oct. 10, 2011: Possible corruption and ties to organized crime in the northern Mexico city of Linares has landed the entire police force in hot water.

The cops are all being investigated and Mexican soldiers and Nuevo Leon state police are now patrolling the area, which is located about 75 miles southeast of the northern industrial city of Monterrey.

Linares Mayor Francisco Medina Quintanilla told Milenio Television on Sunday that his city’s police officers were put on buses and driven to another town. They will be held there by state investigators while they are investigated.

A series of investigations in other towns already has put hundreds of officers in custody. In Linares, more than 100 officers have been detained on the heels of a rise in kidnapping and extortion in the area.
