Chicago Might Be First To Use Anti-Texting Tool: ‘Textalyzer’

Chicago is poised to become the first city in the United States that will arm its police officers with devices that would inform them if a motorist was texting when they got into a traffic accident, according to ABC News. The Chicago City Council’s public safety committee voted on Thursday to request that the police study the hand-held devices after first hearing from a father whose son was killed in a distracted driving accident along with the company that developed a prototype of the “Textalyzer.” A number of states have considered the equipment, including New York, New Jersey, and Tennessee, but Chicago would be the first U.S. city to do so, according to one of the co-sponsors of the…
